    compression shorts

    Introduction

One of the best apparel items an athlete can add to their kit is a high-quality pair of compression shorts. Not only do these firm-fit pants provide support, but they also improve circulation and speed up your muscle recovery time.

A premium quality pair of compression shorts wears well under your jogging pants or gym shorts. They are designed to keep you dry while you work out and prevent irritation and chafing.

The only downside is that not all compression shorts are made equal. To make it less of a challenge for you to find the best compression shorts for men, we have gathered up the best Amazon has to offer and reviewed each of them. So, let’s dive in and see what’s hot and what’s not!

      Best Compression Shorts

We tried, tested, and wore various pairs of compression pants from Amazon and concluded that these eight are the best shorts for daily workouts and sports activities. We used the approach to chat to men about what they looked for in a pair of high-quality compression shorts and collected together the ones that ticked these boxes.

We then reviewed each of these men’s compression shorts. Our evaluation of each was based on the following criteria: the materials used to make the pants, construction and durability, the support provided, functionality, and breathability.

      1. Runhit Compression Shorts for Men

      compression shorts

Runhit is a sporting brand that specializes in sporting and compression apparel. They offer a wide selection of workout gear, from compression tanks and leggings to workout shorts and swimming trunks.

It was the Runhit Compression Shorts for Men that caught our eye. This handy three-pack of short tights not only looks sleek but they are said to offer unrivaled comfort and support. We needed to find out for ourselves, so we gave them a try.

      Specs

      • Offered in various colors
      • Made from a blend of polyester and spandex
      • Flatlock seams
      • Elasticated waistband

      Who is it Best for?

If you seek a pair or three of the best compression shorts you can find, then you may want to look a little closer at these. Runhit provides its compression pants in a set of three, making it more convenient and cost-effective than having to purchase three separate pairs. I decided to give them a try, wearing them in various scenarios; at the gym, when weightlifting, on a jog, and even to bed. In my opinion, they provide exactly what you want from a pair of premium compression shorts. They are comfortable, offer excellent support, don’t cause you to overheat, and the pockets are nice and deep. The waistband was a little too wide for my liking, and I found it to ride down, but overall these shorts are some of the most comfortable I have tried.

      Key features

Runhit manufactures these compression shorts from a blend of polyester and spandex. This unique fabric is perfect for use when making compression gear.

The polyester is breathable, allowing air to circulate between the fabric and your legs, regulating your body temperature and flushing out any heat build-up. It also delivers excellent moisture-wicking properties, drawing your sweat to the surface of the fabric so that it can be evaporated, keeping you dry and comfortable.

The spandex offers just the right amount of stretch, so you are left with a pair of pants that are comfortable and supportive without being restrictive.

An elastic waistband makes the shorts easy to pull on and off and keeps them in place. Flatlock seams are employed to prevent irritation and chafing.

You will also find two deep pockets designed to keep your belongings safe and in place.

      Pros

      • The pants don’t trap in heat
      • The pockets are nice and deep and hold your items well
      • The pants work well for post-operative recovery too

      Cons

      • The waistband runs a little wide
      • Seam placement is not ideal

      2. Neleus Men’s Compression Shorts with Pocket

      compression shorts

Neleus was founded in 2008 and is a sportswear apparel manufacturer. The brand aims to provide sportsmen and women with high-quality sportswear at competitive prices. Using innovation and premium materials, Neleus produces apparel that is functional and comfortable.

The Neleus Men’s Compression Shorts with Pocket come in a selection of colors and promise to deliver support and comfort. We decided to give them a try to see whether they provide the fit and feel we felt compression shorts should offer.

      Specs

      • Made from Dry-FIT fabric comprising polyester and spandex
      • Features an elastic waistband
      • Includes ergonomically placed seams
      • Sits just above the knee

      Who is it Best for?

Neleus provides a firm, comfortable pair of compression shorts that are to be worn without a cup. This pack of three athletic shorts wears easily under jogging shorts, gym shorts, or regular pants. They come in a wide selection of colors, too, making it simple to find the ones that best suit your sense of style or match your existing workout clothing.

I gave these compression shorts a try, wearing them daily and to various sporting activities. Overall I found them to offer excellent support, unlike other compression shorts usually worn without a cup. However, that being said, I wouldn’t wear them as a standalone garment.

Another aspect of these shorts I enjoyed was the pockets, one on each leg. They offer enough depth to safely store your phone, keys, or even your gym card. No matter how hard you work out, your belongings stay in place.

      Key features

Neleus makes these compression shorts from a Dry-FIT fabric that sees a blend of polyester and spandex. This material is breathable and wicks sweat away quickly and easily, keeping you comfortable and preventing you from overheating.

The shorts feature an elasticated waistband that sits on the waist, keeping the pants up and in place while you run, work out, or lift weights. These shorts come to rest just above the knee, offering full support of the thigh area.

On the outer side of each leg is a deep pocket to store your belongings. Ergonomically placed seams provide comfort, prevent chafe, and allow the stretch fabric to move as you do so that these shorts do not restrict your range of motion.

      Pros

      • The pocket depth is excellent
      • The fabric of these shorts is lightweight and doesn’t cling to shorts you wear over
      • They are well-priced

      Cons

      • They are rather revealing

      • Includes ergonomic seams
      • Features an eight-inch inseam

If you’re looking for a pair of compression shorts that are perfectly suited to a wide variety of athletic activities, then these performance compression shorts from Neleus may be the ones you need.

Compared to competitors such as SWONES Men’s Running Shorts 3Pack, these shorts from Neleus are well-priced and cost-effective. They also look far smarter and offer a better stretch.

After wearing these compression shorts for a few weeks, I can say that these come out on top when it comes to comfort. They are lightweight but not too thin and provide just the right amount of support without being restrictive. Best of all, they don’t ride up, and the elastic waistband doesn’t roll down either, as they are often known to do. I would recommend these for just about any sport.

      Key features

Neleus makes these compression shorts from a blend of polyester and spandex. This fabric provides breathability and sweat-wicking capabilities that keep you cool and comfortable.

The shorts provide just the right amount of support and offer a snug but not overly tight fit to prevent chafing and the pants riding up as you move. This compression also helps to improve blood circulation and reduces the likelihood of soreness and stiff muscles.

You can wear these compression pants as underwear or outerwear for just about any sports you can imagine. The fabric is soft against the skin, stretchy, and allows for movement in all directions.

A wide elastic waistband prevents the top of the pants from rolling down as you move, and it won’t dig into your skin or waist either.

      Pros

      • These shorts don’t ride up when you move about
      • The waistband doesn’t roll down
      • Excellent moisture-wicking properties

      Cons

      • Design is not tagless

      4. Adidas Men’s Training Alphaskin Sport Short Tight

      compression shorts

Adidas was founded in 1949 in Germany. The brand designs and manufactures footwear, apparel, and accessories. Today, Adidas is the biggest producer of sportswear in Europe. The brand’s iconic three-stripe logo is loved by many and is the first choice for many athletes across the globe.

The Adidas Men’s Training Alphaskin Sport Short Tights are designed to offer a tight-fitting cut that improves blood circulation in the upper leg area while providing support.

      Specs

      • Features polygene odor protection
      • Includes a metallic heat transfer Adidas logo
      • The waistband is made from soft-touch elastic
      • Made from recycled polyester

      Who is it Best for?

Adidas prides itself on being a brand that makes use of materials that allow it to lower emissions and save resources, reducing its impact on the environment without compromising on quality. If these are the sort of ideals you value, you may want to look at the Adidas Men’s Training Alphaskin Sport Shorts.

Impressed with the brand’s commitment to the environment, I wanted to see if these short tights still offered the comfort and support I had come to expect from the brand.

After wearing them for various sporting occasions, I can happily conclude that the comfort and support are remarkable. These shorts provide a neat bracing around the glutes and hamstrings, and they don’t ride or bunch up as you move about.

      Key features

Adidas makes these short tights from an Alphaskin fabric made from recycled polyester. This material offers the right amount of stretch where you need it most while providing unrivaled support.

Worked into the fabric is Adidas’s unique Climacool heat-reactive technology that provides exceptional ventilation, designed to keep you cool and comfortable no matter how intense your workout gets. These short leggings are moisture-wicking as they wick away your sweat to the surface of the shorts allowing it to evaporate.

The waistband of these pants is made from soft-touch elastic that is comfortable and fits firmly without being restrictive. The inseam measures nine inches in length, so you can be sure these pants won’t ride up as you work out.

Something I was left impressed with is the polygiene odor protection these shorts offer. They prevent your body from becoming odorous due to sweating and heat build-up.

      Pros

      • The seams in these pants are well-placed and they don’t chafe
      • Makes a very comfortable base layer
      • The shorts offer just the right amount of compression

      Cons

      • The fabric is relatively thin in the crotch area

      5. Under Armour Men’s Compression Shorts

      compression shorts

Under Armour is a brand that offers sporting apparel and activewear designed to provide you with performance solutions that meet your every need and you can’t do without. The brand is known for its exceptional wicking abilities and for its HeatGear and ColdGear technology designed to keep you comfortable in any climate conditions.

The Under Armour Men’s HeatGear Armour 2.0 6-inch Compression Shorts are an excellent example of Under Armour apparel that makes use of this innovative fabric. Let’s see how it fared.

      Specs

      • Made from a blend of polyester and elastane
      • Offers a 4-way stretch design
      • HeatGear technology allows for quick-drying and wicking away sweat
      • Seams are ergonomically located for comfort

      Who is it Best for?

If you’re looking for a pair of compression shorts that work well in a warmer climate or for summer, then these pants from Under Armour may be the ones for you. They are made with innovative fabric designed to keep you cool and sweat-free no matter how hot it gets during your workout.

Compared to competitors such as CompressionZ Men’s Compression Shorts, these pants from Under Armour are relatively inexpensive and are well-priced, especially for the durability and functionality the pants provide.

I gave these compression shorts from Under Armour a try and found a few things out. Firstly, they are very well constructed; the seam lines are where they should be and don’t cause irritation. I did find, though, that the pants don’t offer as good a compression level as others I have tried out for this review. With that being said, they are still an excellent pair of pants, and they get the job done.

      Key features

Under Armour’s compression tights are made from durable HeatGear fabric that sees a combination of polyester and elastane. The material is uniquely designed to eliminate the effects of heat; they keep you cool, prevent you from overheating, regulate your body temperature, and they dry quickly.

The moisture-wicking fabric swiftly eliminates any sweat by drawing it to the surface of the pants so it can evaporate, ensuring you stay dry and confident.

Under Armour takes care to ergonomically place the seams in these pants to ensure there is no discomfort, chafing, or irritation. While these pants don’t have pockets, they do offer a 4-way stretch that allows you to move unhindered as you go about your sport. The six-inch inseam prevents the shorts from riding up and provides sufficient support in all the areas that need it most.

      Pros

      • These pants wick away moisture faster than most
      • They are very easy to wash
      • The 4-way stretch offers a lot more range of motion

      Cons

      • The pants don’t offer exceptional compression

      6. Under Armour HeatGear Compression Shorts

      compression shorts

Under Armour is an American sports and fitness apparel brand founded in 1996. The brand offers a selection of clothing and footwear that provides comfort, functionality and is not without a dash of style. Under Armour is best known for its multi-climate control fabric and superior moisture-wicking technology.

The brand has used these innovative elements to make the Under Armour HeatGear Armour 2.0 9-inch Compression Shorts. We gave these shorts a try and were left nothing short of impressed.

      Specs

      • Features a stretchy mesh panel gusset
      • Offers nine-inch inseams
      • Made from a blend of nylon, polyester, and elastane
      • Provides a comfortable 4-way stretch

      Who is it Best for?

Men looking for a slightly longer pair of compression shorts will enjoy these. They offer a nine-inch inseam which is longer than most other compression tights on the market. This extended length provides greater support and won’t ride up your leg or bunch while you sit or move around.

While I found these shorts to be very comfortable and had a little issue with the seams, I feel that Under Armour could improve the compression these pants provide. The support offered to my glutes and hamstrings was minimal and left me feeling as though the pants were better in terms of comfort than compression.

However, the fabric does a phenomenal job of keeping you dry, and it wicks away moisture just as soon as it arrives.

      Key features

Under Armour’s compression pants are made from a blend of nylon, polyester, and elastane, treated with the innovative HeatGear technology. What this means is that the pants are sensitive to heat and prevent you from overheating by regulating your temperature.

The breathability of the shorts is remarkable, and air circulates your legs, keeping you cool where it matters most. The stretch mesh panels around the gusset area take this breathability one step further and offer excellent ventilation.

This fabric also offers a 4-way stretch that allows you to move about unrestricted. Because your movement is unhindered, it is easier to go about your workout comfortably and in style.

While these shorts are marketed as being ideal as outerwear, in our opinion, they are best worn beneath running shorts or gym pants as the fitted form is somewhat revealing.

      Pros

      • The pants are tagless
      • They wick away moisture faster than most other compression shorts
      • The waistband is more comfortable than it looks

      Cons

      • They don’t feature a built-in fly
      • The compression could be improved upon

      7. DEVOPS Men’s Compression Shorts Underwear with Pocket

      compression shorts

Sportswear and fitness apparel brand DevOps designs and produces comfortable and functional clothing for men, women, and children. The brand prides itself on offering high-quality fitness fashion that is durable and versatile. From tank tops and yoga pants to swimming trunks and compression wear, Devops has it all.

The DevOps Men’s Compression Shorts Underwear with Pocket is one garment from the brand’s compression wear range. They are designed to deliver style, functionality, and support all in one go.

      Specs

      • Made from non-abrasive spandex fabric
      • Provides UV sun protection
      • Designed for wear all year round
      • Includes a side pocket

      Who is it Best for?

DevOps designs the perfect compression shorts for wear during a wide selection of sporting activities, including running, gym workouts, yoga, football, soccer, and cycling.

Compared to Runhit Men’s Compression Shorts (3 Pack), this pack of three is much less expensive and offers additional features such as antibacterial and anti-odor properties.

In my opinion, these shorts are excellent value for money. The comfort is impressive, as is the length. They don’t bunch at all, and the waistband stays comfortably in place too.

I found them to be breathable and lightweight, although I wouldn’t suggest wearing them as outerwear. The pocket design is excellent unless you are going to be performing handstands in yoga class. I would have preferred it if the pants had a pocket on both legs instead of just the right-hand leg, but perhaps in the future, this is something we can expect from the brand.

      Key features

DevOps makes these compression shorts from high-quality fabric that offers a comfortable 4-way stretch. This stretchiness makes it easier to move about freely, allowing you to enjoy your exercise to the full.

DevOps also treats this fabric, giving it resistance up to UPF 50+, protecting your skin from harmful UV rays on the days you choose to exercise outdoors.

The ergonomic design of the pants, combined with the strategically placed flatlock seams, prevents chafe, irritation, and discomfort so that you can focus on your workout.

This lightweight fabric is also breathable, and it wicks away moisture efficiently. These cooling, quick-dry pants are ideal for wear in any climate. The shorts also come with antibacterial properties that keep you protected from odor-causing bacteria that build up as a result of sweating, keeping you confident as you go about your day.

      Pros

      • The waistband doesn’t roll down when you move around
      • The pocket is deep and carries a phone easily
      • They provide excellent compression and breathability

      Cons

      • There is only one pocket
      • The pants are a little revealing

      8. Neleus Men’s 3 Pack Compression Short

      compression shorts

Although a new kid on the block compared to the likes of Adidas and Nike, Neleus is fast becoming a sportswear brand that is loved across the globe. The brand’s versatile, functional, and comfortable clothing makes sports, Cross fit, and gym workouts a breeze.

The Neleus Men’s 3 Pack Compression Short is made in the USA and offers exceptional breathability, compression, and support so that you can enjoy your activities in comfort and style.

      Specs

      • Made from a blend of polyester and spandex
      • Provides two-way air circulation
      • Features a four-way stretch
      • The fabric is non-abrasive

      Who is it Best for?

Neleus provides these compression shorts in a set of three pairs, each in a unique color. When I first received them, I was concerned with the vast amount of stitching that sits decoratively across the pants and how this would affect the flexibility and comfort of these shorts. My concerns turned out to be unfounded as they add to the compression offered and give excellent support without causing irritation.

I also found these shorts to provide a comfortable length, and although the waistband rolled a few times, I feel this was more to do with my bulky stomach than the pants themselves.

The compression provided is impressive, although I wouldn’t say that the fabric is thick enough, nor the compression significant enough to wear as compression pants for weightlifting; for other sports such as Cross fit, yoga, soccer, or jogging are excellent.

      Key features

Neleus makes these compression shorts from a blend of polyester and spandex. Together these fibers offer two-way breathability that allows air to flow in between the shorts and your legs, circulate and then flow out again, keeping you cool and preventing an increase in body temperature that then leads to sweating.

The fabric also wicks away moisture, pushing sweat to the surface of the pants so that it evaporates quickly and easily. The quick-dry nature of the pants allows them to dry off quickly should you sweat excessively, so you are not left feeling damp and uncomfortable.

Things to Consider When Buying Men’s Compression Shorts

      1. Fabric

When buying the best compression shorts for men, you will want to note the fabric used to make them. This is because compression shorts should be breathable and have the ability to wick moisture away. Not all materials allow for this and can cause you to become hot, sweaty, and odorous.

Fabrics such as lycra, spandex, and elastane are often used in compression shorts because they provide excellent moisture-wicking properties. However, they are not breathable at all. Steer clear of compression shorts made only from these fabrics and opt instead for a pair that blends these fibers with cotton or polyester, both of which are highly breathable.

      2. Construction

You may also want to consider the construction of a pair of compression shorts before you purchase them. Think about whether an elastic waistband or a drawstring closure is more comfortable for you.

The seam placement and design are also important. Flatlock seams that don’t chafe and ergonomically placed seams are a better option as they won’t cause irritation or chafing.

The inseam length is also something to consider; a longer inseam will ensure the pants don’t ride up or bunch while you workout.

      FAQ

      Conclusion

When looking for the best compression shorts for men, there are several things to consider. Giving thought to the brand, durability, the fabric used, breathability, and quality will all put you a step closer to finding the compression shorts that most suit your needs.

By closely examining and testing each of the men’s compression shorts in this review, we concluded that they each meet the criteria discussed above, making it more simple to find the best compression pants to meet your workout needs.
